BS&B'S FEATURED PRODUCT

Many designs and types of fittings are used as holders for rupture disks (bursting discs) and are fabricated from metal(s) compatible with the process media and atmospheric environment. Each BS&B safety head is designed for optimum safety and performance.

Reduced Inventory Costs. One head fits most standard international flanges eliminating the need to stock unnecessary and costly inventory.
Simple, Fail-Safe Installation. The asymmetric locating pins and standard welded J-Bolt ensure correct orientation by eliminating possible human error.
Leak-Tight Bite-Type Seal. BS&B is the only disk manufacturer who machines a Bite-Type seal into the inlet flange of the Safety Head that engages the disk material proper creating a bubble-tight seal.
Easy Cleaning and Inspection. Maintenance can be done without replacing the disk due to the pretorqued cap screws, which maintain the clamping load on the disk.

For conventional pre-bulged rupture disks (bursting discs) we offer Bolted Type Safety Heads. Where space is limited and where quick or frequent change-out of rupture disk may be necessary, the Union Type Safety Head is available.

With a unique curved design, the LO-TO-FLO™ Safety Head limits process buildup to ensure superior over-pressure protection for high viscosity liquids.

Whether your process requires a Sanitary / Aseptic Fitting or a QUICKSERT™ flat-faced flange assembly holder, BS&B offers the right safety head for your application.

REVERSE RUPTURE DISKS

The Low Pressure LPS™ Reverse Buckling Disk and SRB-7RS Safety Head

The LPS Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) was developed to provide low burst pressures from 5 psig (0.35 barg) using reverse buckling rupture disk technology. The LPS Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc), combined with the SRB-7RS® Safety Head, provides accuracy and reliability. Composite Bursting Disc Type D

The Type D Composite Bursting Disc consists of a slotted metal top section and a plastic or metal seal membrane located at the concave or pressure side of the top section. The top section is the pressure zone and controls bursting rating of disc. Since the top section has open slots, the seal isolates it from process media and prevents leakage. Like the Type B Solid Metal Bursting Disc, the Type D composite disc is dome-shaped with an angular seating arrangement. Pressure is applied to dished or concave side, subjecting disc metal to tension loading.

Flameless Venting

Flame, Dust and Pressure Control: Intercepts Quenches, Retains | 4 safety functions of the IQR System™ | Flame Arresting – No flame escapes providing a safe operating environment for personnel. Eliminates the possibility of a secondary ignition and subsequent explosion external to the protected equipment. | Dust Retention – Retains process product removing the possibility of potentially toxic product entering the environment. | Pressure Retention – Absorbs explosion pressure peak, protects personnel and surrounding environment from pressure blast. | Temperature Control – Absorbs fireball with negligible temperature rise in surrounding environment.

Explosion Suppression

BS&B Type IPD explosion suppression systems use a lightweight modular design to deliver extinguishing agents into a rapidly developing fire to suppress it before reaching destructive proportions. A typical system consists of a Unitized Sensor, a Power Supply Module, a System Monitor and several Explosion Suppression "Cannons." The Explosion Suppression Cannon module propels the extinguishing agent into the developing fireball of an explosion. Because the developing explosion has a head start on the actuation of the suppression system, the system must be rapidly actuated. Dynamic activation breaks up any compaction of dry chemical extinguishing agents, and releases stored pressure to deliver the agent at a very rapid rate. The function of the agent is to extract heat from the developing fireball. The amount of heat generated is a function of the size of the fireball, and the size grows rapidly with time. This requires that the Suppression System must react very quickly.

Building & Duct Vents

Zero maintenance | Low mass, simple installation | Designed for non fragmentation |
Available translucent construction | Excellent insulating properties | Simple replacement | May be applied to protect outlet side of vent relief ducting

Explosion Isolation Chemical

The BS&B Type IPD Chemical Isolation System provides protection to interconnected equipment in the event of an explosion. Ducting and piping connecting process equipment can propagate an explosion originating within a single piece of equipment. If unprotected, the ducting, piping, as well as all the connected vessels and equipment are at risk. The BS&B Chemical Explosion Isolation System is designed to inject a suppression agent into ducting and piping to interrupt the transport of burning material & quench the flame front. The industrial process equipment may be protected by one or more of the following techniques: Explosion Venting, Explosion Suppression, Explosion Containment

Explosion Isolation, Mechanical

Selection of the right mechanical isolation valve depends upon the maximum pressure that it must resist in the event of a deflagration.

Spark Detection & Extinguish

BS&B SparkEx® Spark Detection & Extinguishing System Prevent Fire and Explosion in Industrial Processes | Spark Detection, Flame Detection and Hot Particle Detection | Extinguish Without Stopping Production | Prevent Fire and Explosion Risks in Downstream Equipment | Activate Alarm and Control Systems | A Flexible Modular Design Allows for up-to-34 systems to be monitored through modular expansion |

SENSORS & MONITORS

Burst Disk Monitor (BDM)

Our Burst Disk Monitor (BDM) provides immediate warning when and indicates where a rupture disk (bursting disc) has burst to relieve an overpressure condition. The BDM can be linked to activate other equipment simultaneously to control or to shut down the process. LCD displays for up to eight disk locations | Test and reset capabilities | Available with UL, FM and CSA approved barriers | NEMA Type 4 enclosure standard | 10 Amp SPDT relay output for each channel

Burst Alert® Sensor

Each Burst Alert® Sensor is designed to operate in a “normally closed” electrical circuit. A polymer membrane is used to support an electrical conducting circuit. When the pressure event (disk rupture/valve opening) occurs, the flow of fluid places the polymer membrane in tension which leads to the break of a tantalum electrical conductor. This changes the electrical status of the sensor to “normally open.” Recommended operating limits for Burst Alert Sensors are a maximum current of 500mA, maximum voltage 24 VDC; satisfactory operation can be obtained at a few milliamperes current.
