EXPLOSION PROTECTION SYSTEMS
Explosion Vents and Panel
Unique, economic and patented design | Accurate reliable and leak tight | Enhanced abrasion resistance | One-piece metal construction without slits on the process side avoiding product accumulation | Optional design for aseptic/sanitary applications | No fragile PTFE seal that may puncture and admit moisture | Superior dynamic performance due to low mass compared with composite designs | Operating pressures up to 60% of the minimum tagged pressure rating (80% under certain conditions) | Thermal insulation available to permit use in operating temperatures to 2000°F/1093°C, to reduce heat loss or prevent condensation | Supplied with integral gaskets ready for installation | Fail-safe design, if damaged it will provide a relief opening below its rated pressure
Flame, Dust and Pressure Control: Intercepts Quenches, Retains | 4 safety functions of the IQR System™ | Flame Arresting – No flame escapes providing a safe operating environment for personnel. Eliminates the possibility of a secondary ignition and subsequent explosion external to the protected equipment. | Dust Retention – Retains process product removing the possibility of potentially toxic product entering the environment. | Pressure Retention – Absorbs explosion pressure peak, protects personnel and surrounding environment from pressure blast. | Temperature Control – Absorbs fireball with negligible temperature rise in surrounding environment.
BS&B Type IPD explosion suppression systems use a lightweight modular design to deliver extinguishing agents into a rapidly developing fire to suppress it before reaching destructive proportions. A typical system consists of a Unitized Sensor, a Power Supply Module, a System Monitor and several Explosion Suppression "Cannons." The Explosion Suppression Cannon module propels the extinguishing agent into the developing fireball of an explosion. Because the developing explosion has a head start on the actuation of the suppression system, the system must be rapidly actuated. Dynamic activation breaks up any compaction of dry chemical extinguishing agents, and releases stored pressure to deliver the agent at a very rapid rate. The function of the agent is to extract heat from the developing fireball. The amount of heat generated is a function of the size of the fireball, and the size grows rapidly with time. This requires that the Suppression System must react very quickly.
Building & Duct Vents
Zero maintenance | Low mass, simple installation | Designed for non fragmentation |
Available translucent construction | Excellent insulating properties | Simple replacement | May be applied to protect outlet side of vent relief ducting
Explosion Isolation Chemical
The BS&B Type IPD Chemical Isolation System provides protection to interconnected equipment in the event of an explosion. Ducting and piping connecting process equipment can propagate an explosion originating within a single piece of equipment. If unprotected, the ducting, piping, as well as all the connected vessels and equipment are at risk. The BS&B Chemical Explosion Isolation System is designed to inject a suppression agent into ducting and piping to interrupt the transport of burning material & quench the flame front. The industrial process equipment may be protected by one or more of the following techniques: Explosion Venting, Explosion Suppression, Explosion Containment
Explosion Isolation, Mechanical
Selection of the right mechanical isolation valve depends upon the maximum pressure that it must resist in the event of a deflagration.
Spark Detection & Extinguish

SAFETY RELIEF VALVES
Safety Relief Valve Model 64
The Model 64 is a standard right angle rapid opening/reclosing Safety Relief Valve, with conventional and/or balanced (bellows) designs. They are used with both liquids, gasses, and vapors, in six different model configurations. This is a full nozzle, direct action, spring loaded, adjustable ring, Safety Relief Valve. They are available in ASME and DN flanged connections. The Model 64 is a ASME Section VIII, Div. 1, and an EN ISO 4126-1 rated Safety Relief Valve | Accessories are available, including a test gag, levers (packed or plain), detectors, and insulating jackets. The valves are available in carbon steel, stainless steel, and special alloys (duplex stainless steel, super duplex stainless steel, hastelloy, inconel, titanium, tantalum, stellite disks, etc.).
Safety Relief Valve Model 3-51
The Models 3-5111 & 3-5161 are standard right angle rapid opening/reclosing Safety (Thermal) Relief Valves. The 3-5111 is a conventional design, and the 3-5161 is a balanced (bellows) design. There are nine different configurations of the 3-5111 and 3-5161 combined, used with both liquids and gasses. This is a full nozzle, direct action, spring loaded, adjustable ring, Safety Relief Valve. They are available in both flanged and threaded connections. Special orders may be placed for socket and butt welded versions. Available end connections are NPT threads, and flange ratings are 150# - 300# inlet, and 150# - 2500# outlet, in sizes of ½” X ¾” to 1” X 1”. with DN 20 X 32 to DN 150 X 250 sizes, and PN-10 to PN-250 ratings. Accessories are available, including a test gag, plain levers, o-rings, and heating jackets. The valves are available in carbon steel, stainless steel, and special alloys.
